Eddies inspiring story has been told on the MONTEL WILLIAMS SHOW, and captured on film by producer James LeVeck for the ground-breaking film, THE WITNESS. Eddie Lama was a drug-using thug from Brooklyn, who happened to cat-sit for a girlfriend; and though he was raised to consider animals dirty, the little cat changed his life, nurturing a spark of compassion and humanity in him. He became an advocate for indigent, disempowered people - and ultimately, for animals. He runs a successful construction business; and he is founder of the Oasis Sanctuary in North Branch, NY, a refuge for abandoned, needy animals and a way station for former alcoholics and drug users who live and work at the sanctuary www.oasissanctuary.org .

Not satisfied with participating in demonstrations to raise awareness of animal cruelty, he fashioned a traveling movie screen out of an old van and a tv; he then loaded it up with undercover video of fur and factory farms, laboratory testing on animals, etc - and drove it slowly through the NY streets... not stopping, not asking for money - just letting the tape roll. The public saw images theyd never seen in their lives - and were shocked. A new van will soon be traveling throughout NY, putting a face on animal suffering, and our sameness with them.

ADOW will be presenting Eddie with an award in conjunction with Mary and Peter Max, and the NY Whale and Dolphin Action League, and we will be screening THE WITNESS in its entirely. Refreshments will be provided free of charge, and music will be provided by professional pianist Taffy Williams.
