Drop that turkey
Published in NY Newsday, 11/20/01:
During this time of enormous suffering and tragedy,
please don't contribute to pain and death at your holiday table. Turkeys are
intelligent little beings who feel fear and joy and value their lives just
as you do.
Though they love sunshine and attention, they are
crammed into factory farms, where they are debeaked and partly declawed,
leaving them with eating and walking difficulties.
Why must you eat corpses at Thanksgiving, when there is
so much other wonderful delicious bounty available? It is due to habit and
meat addiction. I always said I could never give up eating animal flesh.
Then I started to really think about what I was eating.
Giving up meat is the one decision I have never regretted.
Let glad tidings ring for all: Go vegetarian.
