EQUINE ADVOCATES NEWS

NOVEMBER 8, 2000

URGENT NEWS ABOUT HB590: "THE THREE-LEGGED HORSE BILL"

ATTENTION HORSE LOVERS AND ESPECIALLY TO ALL PENNSYLVANIA RESIDENTS: ACTON MUST BE TAKEN BETWEEN NOVEMBER 7th and the 13th IN ORDER TO SUCCESSFULLY KILL THIS CRUEL AND INHUMANE BILL.

Reliable sources in Harrisburg have informed us that ONE LAST MAJOR PUSH is all that may be needed this year to successfully kill House Bill 590. It has been dubbed Pennsylvania's "Three-Legged Horse Bill," because it allows for, among other things, the transportation of horses able to bear weight on three legs to slaughter. It also dangerously creates a new and separate classification of equine, known as the "Slaughter Horse," thus allowing for the cruel and substandard treatment of slaughter-bound horses and further legitimizing the highly unpopular practice of horse slaughter, which was outlawed in the State of California in 1998.

******************CALL TO ACTION******************

We are urging everyone to contact the Pennsylvania State Senate and Pennsylvania's governor Tom Ridge BEFORE NOVEMBER 13TH.

Pennsylvania residents should contact their respective

state senators immediately and also do it BEFORE NOVEMBER 13TH.

If you have already contacted your Senators in the past, please call and write to them again! It is imperative that you take immediate action and voice your opposition right away even if you have already done so previously!

We have good reason to believe that we can be successful in killing this bill if we continue to apply pressure while the Pennsylvania State Legislature convenes for the last time this year. We have a great chance of actually killing this bill altogether, but in order to do that, we must all voice our feelings once more in one grand and united blitz of opposition. We must flood the Pennsylvania State Senate and the Governor with calls, letters and faxes (E-MAIL IS NOT EFFECTIVE.)

EVERYONE PLEASE CALL AND/OR WRITE OR FAX:

Robert C. Jubelirer,
President Pro Tempore
Capital Building
Senate Box 203030
Harrisburg, PA 17120-3030
Telephone: (717) 787-5490

F. Joseph Loeper,
Senate Majority Leader
Capitol Building
Senate Box 203026
Harrisburg, PA 17120-3026
Telephone: (717) 787-1350

Governor Tom Ridge
225 Main
Capitol Building
Harrisburg, PA 17120
Telephone: (717) 787-2500
Fax: (717) 772-8284

(It Is Imperative that ALL PENNSYLVANIA RESIDENTS SHOULD DO ALL OF THE ABOVE, PLUS CONTACTING THEIR OWN RESPECTIVE STATE SENATORS IMMEDIATELY!!!) The word is that if this bill does not get out of committee during this session, that it has a good chance of successfully dying.

The choice is yours! This harmful and inhumane bill is still in the Agriculture Committee of the Pennsylvania State Senate. Enough opposition will help to keep it there and kill it. Please act now!
