UPDATE
Korean Protest

Dear Animal Friends,

Yesterday (Monday, March 12) we held another demonstration in front of the Los Angeles Consulate. I was coming fresh from the Genesis Awards in Beverly Hills, and because of this and other traveling, I didn't organize this demonstration as thoroughly as I wanted to. However, we had a fantastic showing of 35 supporters, including our IAKA members, Orange County People for Animals (OCPA), and Ark Trust members, all of whom helped a great deal and made the demonstration possible.

Steve Hindi of SHARK participated in the demonstration once again with his Tiger-truck. This time he got very enthusiastic in his protesting, climbing on top of the truck at one point to tell the Korean consulate to stop eating cats and dogs in Korea, and that the Korean government was cowardly.

I spoke with Consular General Kim Byung Ho in Korean. He asked me to stop the demonstration and that we should just talk. My reply was that the Korean government had not responded to just "talking" for 20 years of animal activists' protests about cat and dog slaughter, and that it was because the Korean government had not kept its promises and was continuing to ignore the problem that we were having this demonstration. He told me he'd contacted the Seoul government about this already, and that he'd call and talk to me at another time. Who knows if this will happen? Regardless if he does initiate future discussions with us or not, I feel that we had even more of an impact on the Korean consulate than last time.

I was interviewed by two Korean newspapers--the Koreana News weekly Magazine and Joong-Ang Ilbo, and by the station Univision.

We distributed about 1000 flyers to passersby. Thanks again to all who supported us, whether you made it to the demo or not!
