Diane Turbyfill

A staff member at the Lincoln County Animal Shelter was injured in an explosion involving the gas chamber this morning.

The staff member appeared to have burns on his arms and chest, according to Gazette reporter Diane Turbyfill who was at the shelter working on an unrelated story.

An ambulance transported the injured man out of the shelter.

Firefighters arrived, inspected the chamber and have left the scene. The shelter is located at 650 John Howell Memorial Drive, Lincolnton.

An inspector will come to the shelter this afternoon to help determine what caused the incident, according to Patty Lackey with Animal Services.
