YOUR LETTERS DO COUNT AND MAKE A DIFFERENCE
Woman Objects To HSUS Sending Gift Watch Made In China
SHE RECEIVES POSITIVE FEEDBACK !
You may recall I wrote on November 25, 2000, about the "gift" of a watch I had received from the Humane Society of the United States. The watch was "Made in China." I was shocked, as the HSUS had just recently done an expose on the terribly acts of cruelty to dogs and cats in China.
(See http://www.hsus.org/bandogcatfur/ )
I immediately sent the watch back and wrote a letter to HSUS expressing my displeasure.
A reply was received today, December 15, 2000 as follows:
December 12, 2000
Dear Ms. Townsend:
Thank you for taking the time to contact The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) and express your concerns over The HSUS's recent mailing which contained a watch.
Please be assured the generous contributions you have made will be used to strengthen our programs for all of our animal friends. The premiums you have received cost mere pennies, and serve as a way for us to thank our supporters and raise additional funds to help even more animals. We will attempt in the future not to purchase premiums from outside the United States.
Again, thank you again for taking the time to write and please accept my apologies for any inconvenience our mailing caused you. If you should have any additional questions, or would like to speak to me directly, please feel free to call me at 301-258-8273.
s/ Nancy Campbell Director, Direct Marketing
I was pleased to receive their response, and trust they indeed will in the future purchase gifts made in the U.S.A. Of course, they still have my support.
