Animals In Print
The On-Line Newsletter

From 22 October 2001 Issue

With threats of terrorism looming large in the nation's consciousness, worried animal guardians wonder how best to protect their best friends. No, you don't need to go out and buy a gas mask for Fido. You couldn't even if you wanted to, since they don't exist! During WWI, human gas masks were modified to fit war horses and dogs, but today's terrorist threats are more likely to take a form that gas masks (for humans or animals) offer little protection against.

Prepare Yourself with PETA's New Animal Rescue Kit! You never know when you may come upon an animal who needs your assistance. Each kit includes a cardboard carrier, a nylon lead, a towel, and a packet of literature full of information on how you can help an animal in need.

Since September 11, like many charities, we've seen a marked decline in donations. That's understandable, given people's worries. But donations from animal-aware people like you are what make PETA's lifesaving and precedent-setting work possible. Even in the face of turmoil, we cannot - and must not - stop our many vital, lifesaving campaigns to end animal abuse.
