WHAT JILL KNOWS
#15- Doesn't Want Dog Anymore
I have a Bishon with American Kennel Club papers that I bought for $1,200. Mimi is a lovely little thing, but I have decided to buy a different kind of dog to show. If I bring her to the A.S.P.C.A. in NYC, will they kill her? I would rather she have a good home. What should I do to get her a new home? Thanks,
Dear Mrs. M.,
Please call your local A.S.P.C.A. and ask them what their policies are on euthanizing dogs that are not adopted. Then call Bide-A-Wee, a no-kill animal shelter, and get Mimi on the waiting list! As you appear to have simply changed your mind about providing Mimi a permanent home, surely you can keep her until a "no-kill" shelter has a space available for her. If you opt to find her a home on your own, please only adopt-out to people you actually KNOW. And even then do a pre-adoption home-check, make them sign an adoption agreement (I can e-mail you one if you need one, just ask me) and check up on Mimi afterwards, every few months. Be very, very careful finding her a new home, as there are a lot of weird and devious people out there to weed through.
Remember, Mimi's life is in your hands.
Love and paw pats,
