Hi Linda,
I saw your poem on http://www.all-creatures.org/poetry/possum.html
Last fall I saw "roadkill". A skunk. I assumed it was dead. But it bothered me. 30 minutes later I went back and it still lived. We eventually got it to a vet/rehabber who wired it's jaw back together, and it survived.
Now I check EVERYTHING in or near the road. So be prepared with gloves, a box or cage, blankets, towel, gauze (to slow bleeding), flashlights, flares (if need be) etc.
Regards,
Pat
