Animals In Print
The On-Line Newsletter
I was born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1947. In 1968, I graduated from Hunter College with major in philosophy and a minor in political science. I have a Master of Education degree from Loyola University and I taught in public elementary schools in Illinois and Florida.
In 1977, I married Fred Glickman. We have three children, David, Michael and Laura. And, we share our home with a mixed breed canine companion named Bailey who was rescued from the Miami-Dade County pound.
My interest and involvement in animal rights grew gradually over the last 25 years. My efforts became focused on helping the Iditarod sled dogs after a 1998 trip to Alaska during which I visited dog kennels, including ones owned by Iditarod race winners. I was horrified to see dogs permanently tethered on four to five foot chains as their primary means of enclosure, living in their on fecal material. In 1999, I founded the Sled Dog Action Coalition, an all-volunteer group whose primary mission is to improve conditions for the Iditarod dogs and provide truthful information about their treatment.
I was, and still am, inspired by my late beloved golden retriever, Cornflake, who had limitless love and goodness.
