Animalkind Inc. a 501(c)(3) grass roots, volunteer based organization was formed in 2000. We are dedicated to stopping the stray and feral cat overpopulation humanely in Columbia and Greene Counties through effective trap/neuter/return (TNR), low cost spay/neuter options for low income pet owners, and emergency rescue and an adoption program.Feral and stray cats are living in the shadows of our community, trying to fend for themselves, suffering because of no medical attention and no food, proliferating into high numbers of more unwanted kittens. As a result, millions of felines are euthanized annually throughout the US as a method of animal overpopulation control. Animalkind is passionately committed to end the proliferation and suffering of these forgotten felines by providing spay/neuter service, feral cat management, education and adoptions.
Animalkind Inc. is a local “hands-on” organization serving two counties, and beyond. We respond to emergency rescue situations, work closely with law enforcement regarding animal abandonment and cruelty cases as well as provide medical care and solutions to pet owners in crisis. Over 150 managed feral cat colonies have been established since our formation. We provide a place of protection and refuge at our adoption center and in foster homes where a cat can live comfortably until it is adopted or lives out its life. At any give time, over 150 free roaming rescued adoptable cats await their forever home at Animalkind. All our adoptable cats and kittens are tested for FelV, altered, vaccinated for rabies and distemper and micro-chipped. With each adoption we provide one month free health insurance for the adopted cat.
Rescue isn't glamorous. It's about comforting a scared cat whose owners abandoned it, or who was abused, injured or starved. It is about restoring hope and dignity to creatures for whom no one else cares. We are a place to help these innocent creatures find their forever homes.
It is about helping people keep their pets through providing low cost spay/neuter, cat food and supplies to financially distressed pet owners.
The responsibility is big but the returns on our emotional investment are greater. There is a great joy in watching the progress of a cat who comes to us badly frightened or possibly injured as he or she becomes a healthy, comfortable and secure resident of Animalkind. Then there is the joy of watching the same cat leave to go to a good home with all of his/her cat dignity restored. Then there is the joy we feel when we hear from a happy adopter and we know that we made it possible for this kitty to move from an unfortunate or perhaps life-threatening situation to a home with a secure future.
We may not be able to change the world but together we can bring compassion and a better life to those who share our part of the world. Please don’t forget the forgotten felines-support Animalkind!
Animalkind alteres 1500-2000 felines annually for the past 10 years.
Over 10,000 cats have been spayed/neutered throughout our existence, preventing the birth over 8 million kittens, kittens that would have breed into an even higher number of homeless and feral cats.
Countless of injured and sick cats and kittens have been saved and cared for through Animalkind and over 5000 former homeless cats found loving homes.
Our work is crucial to stop the suffering and proliferation of unwanted felines.

There is nothing more necessary than warming an
Nothing more rewarding than saving a life
No higher recognition than watching them thrive
There is no greater joy than seeing a creature play
that only days ago, was too weak to eat
I am an Animal Rescuer
My work is never done
My home is never quiet
My wallet is always empty
But my heart is always full!
In the game of life, I have already won!
