CATO is raising money for Animalkind!

His journey and his story in the book: "The Stony Point Whisker Club" is a wonderful story, describing Cato's travel from the Hudson Valley to mid-coast Maine. Proceeds from purchasing the book will go to Animalkind!

In an unusual fund-raising joint venture, author Don Loprieno has dedicated all proceeds from his new book, The Stony Point Whisker Club, to Animalkind of Hudson, New York.

When most books are written, national publishers distribute them and the author receives only a small percentage of the profit. “There’s nothing wrong with this arrangement,” says Don Loprieno, “ and that’s how my first book was published, but when I wrote my second book, I wanted more of the profits to help animals, especially cats.”

To achieve that goal, Loprieno, who lived in New York but now resides in Bristol, Maine, published his new book himself. Entitled The Stony Point Whisker Club: My Travels with Cato from the Hudson Valley to midcoast Maine, it’s a story that operates on a number of levels. It’s told as it happened over a span of some fifteen years, and recounts a special relationship with Cato, a very special feline. “ A lot of people have shared their lives with animals and know how rewarding that can be,” said Loprieno, ‘ but for me, it was something new.”

A pivotal event in the story of The Stony Point Whisker Club is a callous act of indifference, which went unrecognized as such at the time. It proved to be the source of profound regret, but also led to a lifelong bond of affection and friendship between human and cat, underscoring the fact that those who love animals are not always born that way; they are sometimes created in the crucible of experience.

Cato’s story is told with humor, insight and reflection, and will touch your heart - and it isn’t just for those who appreciate animals or feel kindly toward them. It is a testament to the true power and nature of love, and will appeal to anyone who has ever felt that unique joy.

“I’m pleased to support the important work of Animalkind, especially during these difficult economic times,” Loprieno says, “and l encourage others to do what they can: make a donation, adopt a cat into a loving home, have your pets spayed and neutered to reduce the number of unwanted animals, and in general care for the creatures who share the world with us.”
