Cash-strapped Breeder calls Animalkind to Take Cats - 7 Jan 2010
This is a sad example of the harm done by breeding more cats when there are not enough homes for existing felines.

Animalkind received a call from a person about to be evicted from their home and "business". The person explained that she had six Siamese cats that needed to be taken "somewhere else" as the landlord threatened eviction. When we asked why so many Siamese, the person explained that she "bred" them for money, but that in the current economy, she had not been able to "sell" these Siamese and had to "get rid" of them quickly.

Animalkind agreed to take the six poor kitties in. But...when the cats were picked up, there were NINE...and not SIX! All had been bred for sale -- Snowshoes, Sealpoints, Lilacpoints...

All 9 Siamese kittens are between 6 - 9 months old. All are beauties - male & female, long-hair & short-hair, Snowshoe, Sealpoint and Lilacpoint Siamese. All were raised indoors and are very affectionate. Animalkind will spay/neuter, vaccinate and microchip -- a far better deal than any "breeder" will offer!
This is a very clear example of the harm done by breeding when there are not enough homes for all felines. Animakind urges its readers and patrons not to pay pet shops and breeders to discourage them from seeking profits by bringing more souls into the world to compete for all-too-scarce homes.
UPDATE - 16 Jan 2010
In just a little over one week, all *nine* kitties were adopted to wonderful homes

Animalkind Inc.is a not-for-profit welfare, protection, rescue, rights organization dedicated to the compassionate care and humane population control of abandoned, feral and stray cats in Hudson, New York (Columbia County) and the surrounding area. We promote non-lethal prevention of an unwanted litter or litters of kittens through trap, spay, neuter, release (return), (tnr, TNR). An altered cat or kitten is released into a managed colony. Felines living in such colonies are assured kind daily care. Adoption to homes providing love and care for cats and kittens is encouraged. We also provide low or no cost spaying and neutering assistance to low income pet owners and help increase public awareness and education through the media, special events, and publications to promote compassion, respect, and kindness towards all animals.
