A kind lady from Freehold, NY, brought a severely injured cat to a local veterinarian.
The cat's front left leg had been caught in a trapper's spring-loaded animal trap, and the poor cat dragged himself - trap and all - to this lady's doorstep, even though it wasn't her cat and had never been seen there before. She was able to open the trap and extricate the cat's leg from the trap and then take the cat to the vet. After careful examination, the vet determined that the leg was so badly injured, it had to be amputated. The lady did not have the funds to cover the vet costs, and Animalkind was contacted. Also, the cat would have to have a place to go after the amputation. Animalkind agreed.
The cat, despite his horrible experience, was very affectionate...perhaps realizing that he had been spared.
After surgery, neutering, vaccinations and recovery from anesthesia, the cat had a HUGE appetite.
Also....he is already learning how to navigate with the missing leg.
While the cat was at the vet, a neighbor of the kind lady rescuer, who already had a "special needs" cat, agreed to adopt the now three-legged cat. An optimistic ending to a very sad circumstance
A police investigation later concluded that the trap was legal and permitted by law.
