Help Us Ban Canned Hunting in South Africa

I am hoping that all over the world, animal activists will please take the time to sign this petition and help us here in South Africa attempt to make some kind of impact on the canned hunting laws.

As you are all aware, the hunters often are the ones with the money and all we have is the support of people such as yourselves and your signatures to help us make a difference.  It is only by being able to present our government with 100’s of 1000’s of signatures, especially from potential tourists who do NOT wish to shoot animals other than with a camera, that we can perhaps get them to sit up and listen to us.

If you need further details, please go to www.cannedlion.co.za or please feel free to contact me

Thank you.

Please take a moment to read about this important issue, and join me in signing the petition. It takes just 30 seconds, but can truly make a difference. Please sign here:

Further info:

Canned hunting is the hunting of an animal where that animal is unfairly prevented from escaping the hunter – either because of physical constraints (such as fencing) or mental constraints (such as habituation to humans).

Hunters maintain that there is no better way of protecting the habitat of a species than by systematically hunting it. ‘Hunting is conservation!’ they claim righteously. This is absurd.  It is like saying that only whaling can save the whales.

The lion breeders allege that they are conserving the animals by boosting their numbers, but numbers alone are not a measure of conservation.  If the only alternative to extinction is to be imprisoned for life in cruel and unnatural living conditions, before being executed by inhumane and unethical means, then the species would be better off extinct.

Canned lion breeders are wealthy landowners.  Millions of honest South Africans have to survive without the privilege of land ownership, and it ill suits wealthy landowners to complain that they cannot find any use for their land which is both harmless and constructive.
