Information from Coalition to Ban Horse-Drawn Carriages
We must continue to contact the New York City Council, asking them to support Intro 658-A, the bill to ban the horse-drawn carriage industry in NYC, sponsored by Council Member Tony Avella.
And ask them to oppose Intro 653-A, which is sponsored by Kendall Stewart and David Weprin. This bill is nothing short of a fraud perpetrated on unsuspecting tourists and NYC tax payers.

Dear Council Member:
Please support Intro 658-A, the bill to ban the horse-drawn carriage industry in NYC. It is not only inhumane to the horses, but is also a safety issue for pedestrians. These slow moving carriages impede the flow of traffic, including emergency vehicles such as ambulances and fire trucks. They do not belong on the streets of a 21st century City. I am asking you to vote against Intro 653-A. This bill asks for a raise increase for an industry that has already given themselves a huge increase through their many web sites - and charges tourists on the street more than allowed by law. It continues to be ignored by the Department of Consumer Affairs. In addition, the bill would eliminate the inspections and oversight of the ASPCA, which also supports a ban. This is a mistake and would encourage more abuse.
