See the video and then send emails or faxes to the officials below asking them to cancel the Fiesta of the Pero Palo in Villanueva de la Vera, Spain, where a donkey is brutally abused during a procession in which it is driven through a screaming crowd and ridden by a completely drunk man. Sometimes the donkey is kicked, bitten and oftentimes falls injuring himself.

If the festival cannot be stopped this year, then we can work on ending future brutality.

SAMPLE LETTER / TALKING POINTS
[Translated by Comitato Europeo Difesa Animali (European Committee Defence Animals)]

With this letter we sustain the protest against the continuously missed respect of the law 5 of May 23 2002 of protection of the animals in the autonomous community of Extremadura, during the celebration of the celebration of the Pero Palo in the village of Villanueva de la Vera in the province of Caceres, which this year will be held on Tuesday February 24th 2009.

In this popular party a donkey is brought among the streets of the village, where it is ridden by a completely drunk youngster and incited by the people in a course of about one hour, accompanied by shots, noise of cowbell and falling numerous times.

In almost all the editions the man bites the ears of the donkey causing him an awful pain that is added to the suffering due to its barbarous carrying out of this celebration.

We ask that there is made an end to the use of alive animals, in this party as well as the others where they use animals in the province of Caceres and for this we sustain the animalists that will be present that they will send a report on the respect of the law.

Thank you, for everything you do for animals!
