Please contact the FWS and ask it to deny the permit requested by Lionshare Farm's (Connecticut) application PRT-210329 to import three wild cheetahs from South Africa.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) is currently considering a permit application from Lionshare Farm Zoo, an unaccredited zoo in Connecticut, to import three cheetahs from South Africa. In order to qualify for such a permit, the facility must show that the import will contribute to the conservation of the species by participating in a legitimate breeding program and/or providing a valid program of conservation education and must prove that the import is not primarily for commercial purposes. Lionshare fails on all counts.

Lionshare appears to be nothing more than a private menagerie owned by a wealthy woman who has decided to collect exotic species rather than art or jewelry. There is no evidence that Lionshare is open to the public—which would certainly make it difficult for the cheetahs to serve any educational purpose—and is not part of a recognized captive breeding program for cheetahs. In addition, Lionshare's employees are woefully unqualified to care appropriately for cheetahs, an endangered species that is especially difficult to breed and susceptible to many diseases in captivity.

Thank you for everything you do for animals!
