CONTACT Find your New Hampshire lawmakers here INFORMATION / TALKING POINTS On Wednesday, January 6, the New Hampshire House of Representatives will vote on the Greyhound Protection Act (House Bill 630) a humane proposal that would definitively make dog racing illegal in the Granite State. After months of work, humane advocates like you won a major victory last month when HB 630 was approved in the Local and Regulated Revenues Committee by a resounding 15-2 vote. The Greyhound Protection Act is now only a few steps away from becoming law! Calls are needed now in support of this important measure. Please make your calls today, and ask your friends and neighbors to also call for the dogs. It's now or never for New Hampshire greyhounds! Talking Points Greyhound racing is cruel and inhumane. At commercial
racetracks, greyhounds endure lives of terrible confinement and
many suffer serious injuries. Between 2005 and 2008, nearly
1,200 greyhounds were injured while racing in New Hampshire. Even though New Hampshire racetracks have already voluntarily
ended dog racing, unless the law is changed greyhound racing
could come back at any time. Greyhound racing was a money loser for the state. The state
spent more money regulating dog racing than it received in
revenue. Greyhound racing was a money loser for the racetracks
themselves, and they have already made the business decision to
end it. Greyhound racing is now illegal in most states, including all of the states that border New Hampshire. New Hampshire prides itself on being a family friendly state and allowing greyhound racing goes against the values of the Granite State. Thank you for everything you do for animals! |
