INFORMATION / TALKING POINTS
Please do one small thing in the next few days to protect Colorado's White River National Forest from oil and gas development over the next fifteen years.
The Forest Service is beginning the long-term plan for the White River National Forest, and it may include opening pristine areas to oil and gas leasing.
Send a message urging the Forest Service to support a "No Leasing Alternative" for the White River National Forest.
Located in the heart of the Rocky Mountains, the 2.3 million-acre White River National Forest is home to lynx, moose, bighorn sheep, native Colorado River cutthroat trout, and northern goshawk. It is also prime black bear habitat and hosts the biggest elk herd in the world.
Local communities depend on the White River National Forest's world-renowned recreation opportunities to bring in much-needed tourism dollars.
Yet the Forest Service is considering a plan that would increase the number of oil and gas wells in this national forest by 1000 percent!
Among the wild areas that would be at risk from oil and gas drilling is the Clear Fork Divide -- which includes seven pristine roadless areas and critical wildlife migration corridors.
Our national forests should be sanctuaries for wildlife and outdoor enthusiasts -- not sacrificed to oil and gas companies.
Please send a message right away urging the Forest Service to support a "No Leasing Alternative" for the White River forest. The deadline for comments is July 30.
Thank you for taking action to protect Colorado's last open spaces.
Thank you for everything you do for animals!
