No Sable Island Grey Seal Slaughter

INFORMATION / TALKING POINTS [...use your OWN words...]
I am horrified to learn about the proposed massacre of grey seals on Sable Island. The grey seal population does not need to be culled, according to Canadian scientists. It is, in fact, stabilizing. The Canadian government has already allowed the fishing industry to interfere with marine ecosystems to such an extent that the complex food web has been substantially altered. Continued mismanagement will only make the situation worse.
Instead of proposing the slaughter of seals, the Canadian government should halt the wholesale destruction of fish populations via factory trawlers and harmful fishing practices, such as bottom trawling. Restoring the balance of nature will require a profound shift in the management paradigm of the Department of Fisheries and Oceans.
Furthermore, any commercial activity on Sable Island would cause irreparable harm to this fragile ecosystem. Large-scale equipment must not be brought here. This island has been protected for decades. Few people were allowed to visit it. Now, this proposal to engage in a massive marine mammal slaughter on this island is a slap in the face to those who have worked to preserve it for years.
I urge you to abandon this plan immediately.
