After Congress removed northern Rocky Mountains wolves from the endangered species list through a back-door rider on a budget bill this spring, Montana and Idaho authorities opened wolf-hunting seasons.
Hunting wolves disrupts pack dynamics and orphans pups, leading to losses greater than the number actually shot. Even more aggressive wolf management in Idaho, planned persecution after delisting in Wyoming and the killing of Montana's wolves all threaten to drastically reduce regional wolf populations.
This could potentially disrupt genetic exchange between populations, and slow the natural return of wolves to states where they once lived but were exterminated, such as Washington, Oregon and Colorado.
While the Center for Biological Diversity fights in court to return the wolves' federal protection, we need your help to contact Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer and ask him to suspend the hunt and let Montana's wolves live.
Thank you for everything you do for animals!
