From Alyssa - 5 Jun 2004

I love all animals. I've had animals all my life. I have a horse, and when I learned of the treatment that horses were getting from slaughterhouses and through urine collection I was outraged.

I'm only a teenager though, and I didn't think that I could make a difference, but I decided to learn about the situation as much as I could, in hopes that maybe I could make a slight difference. I told all of my friends about it and shared my information with them. I also showed them pictures. Many of the pictures I saw made me cry, because I saw horses that were like my horse being tortured and killed. I try to spread the word to people, even if I can only tell a few.

Someday I hope to make a bigger difference. I plan on writing letters to different places and people to try to help more. Sometimes I feel like I should give up, but my love for horses, and all animals in general, makes me keep trying and never give up. I hope I make a difference someday.

Dear Alyssa:

Thank you for your letter. The hope of this world rests in the hearts and souls of young people like you. You do make a difference, by doing exactly what you're doing.

As you continue to spread the word about horses, you'll also find that your message will begin to include the same concern for the well being of other animals who suffer and die just like the horses do. We need to make peace with the whole of creation, and when we do, we'll find we finally have it.

In the Love of the Lord,
