From Red Neck Girl - 20 Jan 2006

I don't mean to be rude and I can see where your coming from but I am a Catholic and I believe that God made the animals for consumption. I think it is sickening to kill an animal and not use it's meat for food or its fur for warmth and survival. I love horses and have two of my own. I think its ok for them to be used for food because what else is to be done with them? Not everyone in the world has the time or money to adopt and own a horse. I think that using them for food is a good use of the horses that nothing can be done with.

Dear Red Neck Girl:

We simply don't understand your logic. By extension, does this mean that we should eat our companion dogs and cats, who are usually loved as members of the family?

We also don't understand what being Catholic has to do with not being compassionate toward animals.

Most of the excess population of horses comes from human caused over breeding, which could easily be stopped if we were compassionate. And from what you wrote, we assume that you are planning to send your horses to slaughter when they are no longer of "use" to you.

In your redneck philosophy, you also seem to be confirming what is written in Proverbs 12:10...

A righteous man has regard for the life of his beast,
But the compassion of the wicked is cruel.

Is this really who you are?

In the Love of the Lord,

Frank and Mary
