From R. - 21 Apr 2006 I'll be honest with you I'm not a big believer in God. But I am definitely against all forms of animal cruelty! I've always thought that if is against the law to inflict murder, neglect, and abuse on a human, why is it any different for animals? I think it is pathetic that humans have to torment and kill innocent animals that are considered lesser beings because they aren't capable of speaking. How can they even think for a second that we are better then them? Animals have abilities that no human could ever posses. Dogs have been known to save human lives because of a "sixth sense". And what really angers me is that most schools not only condone but teach students that animal cruelty is acceptable. In Biology we have to dissect a rat. If we don't do this then we fail the class. Yeah I understand the importance of knowledge about the body but that is no reason to dissect an innocent animal. We teach our children to be kind to others but how can we when we aren't taught to respect all forms of life? Reply from Frank and Mary Dear R.: Thank you very much for your comments and compassion. Your logic is very sound. The only way we are going to end this indifference to the suffering of animals is to have more and more compassionate people begin to speak out and demand an end the cruelty. And part of this requires us to get the religious community involved. There are also computer programs that do an even better job of educating young people that can be derived from dissection.
