From The Ark Number 189 - Winter 2001
Welcome! To our new president
All of us on the bridge of the Ark are delighted to welcome our new
skipper, Rt Rev Malcolm McMahon OP. Born in London on 14 June 1949, Bishop
Malcolm was ordained priest on 26 June 1982 and became ninth bishop of Nottingham on 8
December 2000.
Bishop Malcolm is a Dominican (Order of Preachers) and served as Provincial for the Order for two terms in the 1990s.
In his letter of acceptance to become the President of the Catholic Study Circle for Animal Welfare, he says: I have never had a pet of any kind so I dont have the same kind of affinity with animals that others do, but it is certainly part of our Christian vocation that we should respect all of Gods creation. It is also a great honour to follow in the line of such distinguished predecessors. We wish him a happy term of office on board.
To our New Membership Secretary
The Ark is very happy to welcome aboard our new Membership
Secretary, Mrs Ann Bates. Ann is so pleased to help promote the society and work for
the animals I love so much. Newly retired from teaching maths to 11 - 16 year olds
and A-level statistics, she was brought up on a farm and shall always
remember the dignity with which my father treated the animals. Married to David,
another teacher, they have two wonderful, and highly privileged 14-year old
cats.
Please send all correspondence, (apart from material for The Ark journal), including membership renewals, orders for cards or leaflets, and changes of address, to
Mrs Ann Bates, 36, Broad Oak Park, St Johns, Colchester, Essex CO4 4JY
