A SOLUTION THROUGH LAW
By Anthony Hofler

‘Hold still, rabbit, so that I can squirt this in your eye,
To test for a reaction.
Do you wonder why?
Science and medicine must not be
Obstructed by a qualm
Of conscience on the ground
That they will cause some creatures harm.
Experiments on humans pass
With barely a demur,
So equally expendable
Are creatures clothed in fur.’

Experiments on humans?
Have you never heard of those?
Perhaps because the victims
Are described as ‘embryos’.
Whether animals or humans,
They need someone to defend
Them and to stop their lives being viewed
As just a ‘means’ and not an ‘end’.
The vulnerable and the weak
Are lightly cast aside
As legislators authorise
This neo-Nazi tide.
Nothing can be changed
Unless the critics take a hand,
At first by being candidates;
Are you going to stand?
