Dr. Jones taught High School English
and Classics for a few years, and then studied theology at the Regina
Mundi Pontifical Institute, Rome. She was appointed the first lay
Director of Adult Education for an English diocese in 1980 and was
invited to sit on committees of the Catholic Bishops' Conference, for
Ministerial Formation, and for Theology. After 17 years she left the
Diocese of East Anglia to become Editor of the weekly national
newspaper, ‘The Catholic Herald’, for a couple of years. She has also
been Deputy Editor for the journal ‘Priests & People’ for 12 years. She
has a Masters degree in Pastoral Theology from Cambridge and a doctorate
in the Catholic theology of animals (University of Wales Lampeter). She
runs the UK-based charity Catholic Concern for Animals and writes
homilies for Redemptorist Publications. She has authored one
best-selling book, The RCIA Journey (23rd Publications), several
booklets for ministerial training and many journal articles, and
recently, The School of Compassion: a
Roman Catholic theology of animals (UK:Gracewing; USA:LPC) and her new
booklet Concern for Animals by the Catholic Truth Society. (The booklet
will be available for $3.00.) She is also a Fellow of the Oxford Centre
for Animal Ethics (Director: Rev. Professor Andrew Linzey)
