Who We Are
Catholic Concern for Animals - USA

FROM BISHOPS

CCA member Suzana Megles sent out 375 personal letters to Bishops in 2001 regarding animals. One response she received was:

"I write to acknowledge your letter of November, 2001 regarding responsible humane care for animals and recognition of their unique dignity in the overall plan of God's creation. This may well be a developing area in our Christian ethics and as always the questions need to be profoundly rooted in our faith tradition and the Gospel we celebrate."

Thank you for the information you sent me recently regarding Catholic Concern for Animals-USA. I had never heard of the organization and it was interesting to learn about your efforts....I will pass the information along to our Department of Parish Life and Services.

Archbishop of Detroit, Michigan

Dear Ms. Anderson:

Thank you for bringing to my attention the beginning of a branch of the Catholic Concern for Animals that you have begun in Nevada.

I hope that you find much satisfaction in this worthwhile work. From what I have learned of your organization, I know that our community will only benefit from the care and concern that will be given to all of God's creatures.

Wishing you the best, I remain

Sincerely yours in Christ,
Most Reverend Joseph A. Pepe, D.D., J.C.D.
Bishop of Las Vegas, NV

Thank you for your correspondence and the awareness you promote of the need to treat animals with compassion as also being creatures of God's good creation. Cruelty to animals exemplifies the sinfulness that rebels against our Lord's infinite Love and typifies the brutality of arrogance that is itself a crime against the dignity of the human person.

May our Lord bless you and your organization with growth in spirit and continued reflection on the great mystery of God's love for all His creation and our need to serve as good stewards of that creation to His glory and the restoration of the universe in His glorious resurrection.

Praying for you every spiritual blessing under the heavens,

Assistant to the Bishop, South Carolina

I was very pleased to browse through your website, and especially noted your 70-year history in the United Kingdom on this subject...

Be assured of my prayers for you, your colleagues and your work.

Archbishop of Denver, Colorado

Thank you so much for sending the informative letter on the organization Catholic Concern for Animals-USA. It is great that you have a journal and website for those who desire to know even more about the group.

I am in agreement that we should live more in harmony with the values of God's peaceable kingdom as the organization describes it. All of us should imitate the love and compassion of God and in respect for God's creation extend this to all sentient life whenever possible....

May God bless you in your work.

Archbishop of Atlanta, Georgia
