Dal

1 cup lentils

3 cups water

1 or 2 cup onions, chopped

2 cloves garlic, chopped

2 tsp. water or olive oil

1 tsp. curry powder

1/2 tsp. salt

1/2 tsp. pepper

In a pot fry onions, garlic, and curry in 2 tsp. water or oil for 2-3 minutes.

Rinse lentils and remove any small debris. Add water and lentils to the pot.

Bring to a boil then cook on low to medium heat for about 50 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Add salt and pepper.

This recipe can be doubled.  Dal can also be made in a crock pot.  Approximate cooking times:

4-6 hours on high or 6-8+ on low.
