Split Pea Soup Recipe
1 -16 oz. bag green or yellow split peas
6 cups water
1 onion, chopped
3 – 4 cloves garlic, chopped
1 can carrots, rinsed (or 2 or 3 fresh chopped)
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. pepper
Rinse split peas in colander to remove any small debris
Place everything (except salt & pepper) in a large pot
Bring to a boil then turn down heat and cook (stirring occasionally)
For about 40 to 50 minutes. Stir in salt & pepper.
Note: If soup is too thick, more water may be added.
Adding 1 or 2 Tbs. hot sauce will also give this soup an interesting flavor.
This recipe can be made in a crockpot. Approximate cooking times: high
4-6 hours or low 6 -8+ hours.
