The Times Herald Record in Middletown, NY would not
publish Scott’s letter below. C.A.S.H. is honored to print it here:
Dear Editor
They methodically plan to take the lives of others.
They look forward to securing weapons with which to accomplish this
violence.
They blend into the scenery so as not to be noticed
by their intended prey. They make orphans of the young. They leave
mothers childless.
They look forward to killing again…and again…and again. They think little of this carnage, shamelessly claiming to respect
those they slay.
They regale in their stories of stalking those whose
deaths they seek. They would strike more often if they could…male
or female…young or old…in cold blood.
They are, to those they savage, unmerciful. They go
as far as to relish the taste of their victims’ bloody flesh. Are
they monsters from some fictional horror story? Are they perpetrators
of some real life grisly crime ripped from today’s headlines? Are
they terrorists perhaps? Maybe their victims would have an opinion…if
they could communicate with us in a language we understand.
Who are they then? They are your friends. They are
your family. They are hunters. Pray for their souls, for they know
not what they do. And pray for our wildlife, so that one day they
may know true peace.
