Children as young as 12 can hunt “small game” now
NYS Senate Bill 1284 would allow 14 and 15 year olds to hunt “big
game” with firearms under mentoring. It passed.
It’s a bad move. In Defense of Animals’ announcement provides all of
the arguments you will need:
Most human hunting deaths occur while hunting big game. Children are
impulsive, the firearms injury rate is relatively high among the
youngest hunters, children who are familiar with weapons and have access
have used them for suicide or shooting sprees.
The legislature should promote humane efforts that teach children how
to respect other species and not cater to hunting interests at the
expense of our children and wildlife.
