PA Legislature is Proposing to Tap into Sales Tax Revenue to Boost Failing Game Fund
By
David Kveragas of Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania
PA House Bill HB 1676
mandates that a portion of the Revenue brought in by the Pennsylvania
Sales and Use Tax be given to the Pennsylvania Game Fund and another
portion to the Pennsylvania Fish Fund.
Under this proposal
the Game fund would receive an annual infusion of $10 million from the
revenue brought in by the Pennsylvania Sales and Use Tax. The Fish Fund
would receive an additional $5 million. Using general funds to support
this failing activity sets a very dangerous precedent for supporting
hunting — which is not able to sustain itself from license sales — its
traditional source of funding.
