Calvin Oakknoll
writes of his battle to protect his land and wildlife from invading
hunters. Law enforcement favored the “gunslingers,” as he said. His
family was unable to safely enjoy their property, commune with the
animals, as bullets often flew past their heads. Tragically, Calvin was
sentenced to 25 years in prison for shooting and killing a hunter in
self-defense. The hunter had trespassed on his property, refused to
leave when asked, and pointed his rifle at Calvin. Unbelievably,
Calvin’s 400 acres were confiscated and given to the hunter’s wife,
leaving Calvin’s family impoverished. (Ed note: Calvin later died in
prison.)
