Thrill Killing
Re: Wisconsin teens face 'thrill
killing' hunting charges
To The Editor:
The recent incident in which seven Kiel High School students will face
charges of “thrill killing” small animals has shocked people across the
world. We are happy to hear that the Wisconsin Department of Natural
Resources has filed charges against these demented youths and that they
will be charged in court as adults. People who commit such sadistic and
depraved acts are truly a danger to society and should be prosecuted to
the fullest extent of the law.
Unknowingly, the DNR has put itself in a very awkward position as it
now has to explain to the public why charges are not also brought against
Wisconsin’s fur trappers, who also go out and beat defenseless animals to
death with clubs on a regular basis. The suffering of the animals is the
same, but the difference is that the trappers buy a license from the DNR
so they can legally beat animals to death, and the baseball bats, garden
tools, hockey sticks a metal pipes used by the youths do not carry an
eleven percent excise tax that goes toward funding the DNR, while a
trapper’s tools of destruction do.
The time has come for state and federal wildlife agencies to be brought
up on charges of animal cruelty and wanton disregard for wildlife. One can
only hope that one day these agencies will be held accountable for the
pain, suffering and death they cause on a daily basis. If such abuse of
wildlife concerns you, please visit our website at

Together we can hasten the coming of the day when sport hunting is
known only to history books.
