Being a Hunting Supporter Is No Way to Win an Election

Sent to NY Post 11/9/03

Contrary to what presidential candidates John Kerry and Howard Dean may believe, going hunting to kill some harmless birds will not win the support of many people. (Shootin’ Blanks, 10/31/03)

A recent U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) report showed that the number of hunters in the U.S. declined by 7% between 1996 and 2001. The USFWS also reports that in 1985 there were 16.7 million hunters in the U.S, while in 2001 there were only 13 million, a decline of 22% over fifteen years. During this time, the number of animals killed by hunters has fallen by 42 percent.

If Mr. Dean and Mr. Kerry align themselves with the killers of wildlife, they will lose the support of many who feel that hunting is a crime against nature.
