VICTORIA, Ill. -- Authorities have identified a man who died in
an ice fishing accident in western Illinois.
Knox County Sheriff's Department officials say 50-year-old Allen
Johnson of Galva was pulled from Long Lake near Victoria Sunday
afternoon and pronounced dead several hours later at a nearby
hospital.
The man's son had dropped him off at the lake and came back when
he couldn't reach him by cell phone. The son found a hole in the ice
and fishing equipment partially submerged.
Dive teams from Peoria County and Coppas Creek assisted the Knox
County Sheriff's Department in recovering Johnson from the water.
The weather Sunday was sunny with highs in the upper 30s. The ice
was about three-quarters of an inch thick.
