A Washington man was shot in the leg while hunting deer
over the weekend, a state conservation officer said Monday afternoon.
Russell Zieglowsky, 38, of Washington, was hit in the leg
by a shotgun slug fired by another member of his hunting party, conservation
officer Chris Flynn said.
Flynn is the state conservation officer for Van Buren and
Jefferson counties.
The accident occurred in Van Buren county, southeast of
Keosauqua, said Flynn.
Zieglowsky and his party had been hunting deer in a
timbered area, Saturday, at approximately 3:40 p.m., when a hunter fired
a shot at what he thought was a deer. The injury was sustained because of
that poorly-aimed shot, said Flynn.
Zieglowsky was transported via ambulance to University of
Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City, said Flynn.
A University Hospitals spokeswoman said Monday afternoon
that Zieglowsky was listed in fair condition.
