Safe Hunting?

Man Killed in Hunting Accident

A Koontz lake man is dead, after Department of Natural Resources officials say he accidentally shot himself with his hunting rifle.

The DNR says 53-year-old Charles Brownlee Senior shot himself after stopping his truck on Poplar Road near Walkerton.

Brownlee was trying to get out of his truck with his loaded shotgun when the gun went off.

His gun was loaded with deer slugs. Officials think he was getting ready to shoot a deer.

Conservation officers will continue to investigate.
