SEMINOLE -- A 13-year-old boy accidentally bumped a rifle
while picking it up, and the weapon discharged and killed him, sheriff's
deputies said.
Blake Allan Auld-Gowdy was hunting with a friend, Austin
Thomas, also 13, when the accident occurred just before 5 p.m. Sunday in a
stand of trees about eight miles south of Seminole near U.S. 377,
Seminole County Sheriff Joe Craig said.
He had set his rifle down in a deer stand. The accident
occurred when he picked it up again. He was shot in the chest.
"The other young man tried to help him out of the stand
and ran up and got his dad," Craig said.
Austin's father, Curtis Thomas, was working at an oil well
nearby and had brought the two boys to the woods to hunt.
