A deer hunter who tried to climb a tree with a loaded
rifle accidentally shot himself in the buttocks, police said.
Max Bowers Jr. was hunting in Noble County, northwest of
Fort Wayne, when he attempted to climb a tree Sunday with a muzzle-loading
rifle slung over his shoulder, conservation officer Rodney D. Clear said.
The gun slipped off Bower's shoulder and fell to the
ground, causing it to fire. The bullet struck Bowers in the rear, Clear
said.
Bowers, 56, was treated and released from Parkview
Hospital in Fort Wayne.
