PRINEVILLE, Ore. (AP) — A Molalla man was shot and killed by a family
member while hunting in the Ochoco National Forest, Crook County
authorities said.
The shooting appeared to be an accident, according to the district
attorney's office.
The identities of the hunters had not been released as of Thursday
night. The incident happened on Prairie Hill, about 30 miles east of
Prineville, in a remote area of the Ochoco Mountains. About two hours
elapsed before officers reached the scene, authorities said.
The shooting is the second hunting accident in the Ochoco National
Forest since the season began. In the first incident, 23-year-old Sean
Michael Vaughan of Prineville was accidentally shot in the abdomen by
another hunter and remains in serious condition at St. Charles Medical
Center-Bend.
