According to an AP report of 10/9/04, a 12-year-old boy
fatally shot his father in Oregon.
They were hunting in the Ochoco National Forest. They were
standing next to each other when they spotted a buck and raised their
guns. The boy's gun discharged, shooting the father in the head at point-blank
range. He died instantly.
The DA said this was an "accidental shooting during
the act of hunting. This is not a criminal case. It did not rise
to the level of criminal negligence."
The boy had passed a hunter education course this year and
was licensed to hunt, said Ann Snyder, a spokeswoman for the OR Dept.
of Fish and Wildlife.
