SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - A man died Friday night in a hunting accident
in northern South Dakota.
Authorities said Steve Merkel, 53, of Glenham, was road hunting in
Walworth County.
He shot a pheasant and got out of the vehicle thinking it was in
park. But when he realized it was in reverse, he tried to get back in,
slipped and fell underneath, and the vehicle ran over him,
investigators said.
Merkel was found dead at the scene.
