UPDATE - MP killed in hunting accident (adds details and Socialist
party condolences)
Budapest, November 26 (MTI) - A Socialist Member of Parliament died
in hospital after being shot in a hunting accident on Saturday, a
police spokesman told MTI.
Arpad Urban, who was an MP for the constituency of Balassagyarmat,
N Hungary, was rushed to intensive care after being shot near the
heart in the hunting area between Balassagyarmat and Ersekvadkert on
Saturday, Otto Kaszas said.
Urban, 63, died when his brother, ten years his elder, shot him by
accident while pursuing a wild boar. The older brother fired the fatal
shot while he was making a turning movement in the direction where he
suspected the prey.
The doctor on duty in the intensive care department confirmed
Urban's death, but said no details were to be released at the request
of the bereaved family. Police have begun an investigation.
Chairman of the Socialist party Istvan Hiller and head of the
Socialist parliamentary group Ildiko Lendvai expressed their
condolences in a joint statement.
Urban had been a member of the Socialist party since 1989. He was
an expert on education and sports matters, and worked to improve the
opportunities of children growing up in needy families.
Urban is survived by his wife and two grown-up children.
