Division Of Wildlife Says Boy Mistook Brother For Deer
UPDATED: 2:41 pm EST November 29, 2005
MCARTHUR, Ohio -- Authorities said a 12-year-old southern Ohio boy
was shot to death by his older brother while they were out hunting
Monday evening.
The boys from Vinton County were in woods in Knox Township in the
county around 5:30 p.m. when the accident occurred. The state Division
of Wildlife said the older boy mistook the younger one for a deer. The
victim died later at a hospital in Athens.
The division is heading the investigation and won't release the
name of either boy. But the agency's district manager Jim Marshall
said the sun had already gone down by the time the shooting occurred,
so the older brother, who's either 15 or 16, could be charged with
hunting after hours, a misdemeanor.
