State Wildlife Division investigators are trying to determine how a
19-year-old Newark man was shot to death Saturday while deer hunting.
Steve Burchard apparently became separated from three other members
of his hunting party in a remote area of Licking County.
When they went looking for Burchard, they found him dead.
Wildlife Division investigator Ken Fitz says Burchard died of a
single shot to the head from a muzzleloading rifle.
Buchard's death is the second known fatality of the week-long
deer-gun season that ended Sunday.
On Monday, a 12-year-old boy was accidentally shot to death by his
older brother in Vinton County.
The state is expected to issue final figures on hunting mishaps
today.
