Maryland Natural Resources Police (NRP) is investigating a report
Saturday (Dec. 10) of a hunting accident that occurred Friday morning,
Dec. 9 in St. Mary’s County. A male individual from Chaptico was part
of a group of about 14 hunters who were hunting deer in the Wicomico
Shores area. At about 10:15 a.m. another member of the party allegedly
shot the individual in the arm. The individual drove himself to St.
Mary’s Hospital where he was treated and released with non-life
threatening injuries.
In a separate incident, NRP received a report Saturday, Dec. 10 of
a hunting accident that occurred at 4 p.m. in Kent County. John E.
Wiesner, 58, of Townsend, Delaware, was hunting deer on private
property off of Black Bottom Road near Golt. Wiesner was hunting from
the ground sitting between three trees with his shotgun leaning
against one of the trees. Wiesner told NRP that he saw a deer and
while reaching for his gun, knocked the firearm over which caused it
to discharge. A shot struck him in the left foot. Wiesner then walked
to his vehicle where he met his son who drove him to the Christiana
Hospital in Delaware.
