MANTEE - Webster County authorities are continuing to investigate
the weekend death of Washington County man.
Webster County Coroner Steve Wells confirmed today that Raymond
Grissett, 54, of Glen Allan has been found died in a wooded area in
northeastern Webster County near Mantee.
Wells said Grissett "is known to visit up there and deer hunt." He
said people deer hunting with Grissett realized late Friday afternoon
that the Washington County man had not returned to camp and began a
search of the area.
With help from the Mantee Fire Department, the hunters searched the
area and Grissett was found shortly after midnight on Saturday
morning.
"He was found underneath an overturned ATV," Wells said. "It
appeared that Mr. Grissett was going diagonally down a steep slope,
which may have contributed to the crash."
The coroner said Grissett "sustained significant injuries,"
however, the Webster County Sheriff's Department is investigating the
incident to determine all the facts.
"We have found out that the last time he was seen or communicated
with was believed to be Wednesday," Wells said. "A witness reported
that he heard a gunshot in the area where the man was found on
Thursday morning."
Wells confirmed that a dead deer was found near the area of
Grissett's crash.
Wells said his office has also requested an autopsy be performed to
"rule out contributing natural causes."
